Every month the department audits a bill for all State mandated programs (roughly 1,500 clients) in which we participate. Deductions are taken for:
- All entries for individuals who are not county residents
- Items indicating an overpayment
- Children services which are not court ordered
In 2007, these deductions totaled $243,194 which resulted in a reduction of $99,061 in the County’s liability.
In addition to auditing the State bill, all invoices for services to children are processed by this office prior to authorizing payment by the State. This ensures Medicaid or private insurance has been billed in the first instance and allows the County an opportunity to suggest a less expensive service alternative when appropriate.
The County is also authorized to collect, on behalf of the State, payments from persons chargeable by law for services to children and their families. Parental reimbursement for 2007 was $100,357. the County’s share being $36,129.
