Under New Hampshire Revised Statutes Annotated 104:5, the Sheriff of Belknap County or his deputies are required to serve and execute all writs and other process, having been directed to him, issuing from lawful authority.

Listed below are an example of some of the types of documents generally served and the basic cost for service per person.:

Travel is charged at the rate of 45 cents per mile round trip for each attempt and this is in addition to the above listed service fee.

Additional costs added to the above include $ 1.00 per page for copies, $ 15.00 per hour for search time, waiting time, conducting an inventory and/or sale.

You will also be charged for recording and filing fees where applicable, and publication costs

Prepayment is required and it is advised that you call ahead for the amount to send. Checks and Money Orders are to be made payable to Belknap County Sheriff’s Department.

The Civil Department is open from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., and accepts telephone calls from 8:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Monday through Friday.

Personnel at the Sheriff’s Office are not allowed to dispense legal advice. You are responsible for having your documents completely and accurately filled out before presenting them for service. Please be aware that the courts set specific time frames within which most documents must be served. Failure to present all of the copies in a timely fashion may preclude service.

Additionally, please review your documents when you receive them from the Court to be sure they are accurate before bringing or mailing them to the Sheriff’s Office.
